Question 5: What do you think of the Millvale Music Festival adding a visual arts component this year?

I'll be bringing some visual art that represents the overall theme of social living and my creations. From collages, and digital illustrations, to custom clothing and videos. I'll have a little mixture of everything to live a happy and full life.

Question 2: What was your inspiration to become an artist?

I have always had an interest in creating, but my inspiration to become an artist really manifested once I began school. There I was exposed to what being an artist could mean and fell in love with it; finding community through your creative practice, letting your practice overflow into every part of your life, and most importantly being an advocate for that which the public needs to discuss.

Question 3: How long have you been creating art?

I have been out of school for a year now and have been seriously creating for about 3 years.

Question 4: How did you hear about the Millvale Music Festival?

I heard about the Millvale Music Festival through a friend who was also interested in the event.

I think that by adding a visual arts component the festival has become more well-rounded as a celebration of creation and art in every form.

Question 6: What will you be bringing to the Millvale Music Festival?

I'm going to be bringing original artwork consisting of paintings and drawings, all completed within the last year. Most of my work centers around the idea of exploring one's self, one's emotion's, and what it means to have them in a world of chaos. I will have have a selected amount of prints available for purchase.

Question 1: Who are you?

Murph McCulloch

Question 2: What was your inspiration to become an artist?

I'm a musician and was looking for another creative outlet. A new way to express myself visually. I also didn't want to have a "normal" job so I began screen printing t-shirts for other bands and organizations. Then I started getting into woodworking and building things. I'm at a really cool point now where I've discovered a really fulfilling way to mix abstract art with woodworking to create functional pieces like cutting boards and drink coasters. I make them with different colors of resin epoxy so the beautiful color landscapes compliment the natural colors in the wood creating a very functional piece of art for your living spaces.

Question 3: How long have you been creating art?

Since 2005.

Question 4: How did you hear about the Millvale Music Festival?

Mike Zickefoose/Facebook

Question 5: What do you think of the Millvale Music Festival adding a visual arts component this year?

As an artist and creator, it feels really great to be supported by the community.  In general, anytime there's an event that combines music and visual art, it really provides something for everyone.

Question 6: What will you be bringing to the Millvale Music Festival?

This will be the first event I'll be selling my colorful epoxy cutting boards. I will also have various Pittsburgh inspired art such as coasters, bottle openers, and handprinted t-shirts. I will also have some abstract mixed media art pieces available.

Question 1: Who are you?

My name is Aaron Stitt. I’m a visual artist and photographer. I’d like to be known by Aaron Joseph Studios.

Question 2: What was your inspiration to become an artist?

I’ve always had a desire to create and to experiment with as many mediums as I could. A few years ago, I turned to it as a way to battle depression. The ispiration/color palette for my latest work, what I call fluid painting, comes from my love of the beach and the ocean. Experimenting and playing with paint is a form of stress relief for me. As far as photography goes, this city, the architecture, and the people are all the inspiration I need.

Question 3: How long have you been creating art?

I’ve been creating art in some form or another since I was a child. I started playing with paint more seriously about 3 years ago and added photography about 2 years ago.

Question 4: How did you hear about the Millvale Music Festival?

I actually heard about it through an email about a call for artists. I’m not even sure how you found me!

Question 5: What do you think of the Millvale Music Festival adding a visual arts component this year?

I think it’s great! Art and music go hand in hand!

Question 6: What will you be bringing to the Millvale Music Festival?

As far as visual art goes, I’m hoping to be bringing a handful of new large paintings, mini paintings and drink coasters. I’ll also be bringing a few framed photos and a bunch of new prints for photography. It will be the first time I’ll be selling both my paintings and photography at the same time!

Question 1: Who are you?

My name is Jen Wagner!

Question 2: What was your inspiration to become an artist?

I spent years of my childhood adoring brightly colored animations and being surrounded by artwork. It was instilled early to appreciate art and all I’ve wanted to be “while I grow up” is an artist.

Question 3: How long have you been creating art?

I have been creating some sort of art for as long as I can remember.

Question 4: How did you hear about the Millvale Music Festival?

I heard about it last year but I heard about it too late to go. I was delighted to hear it was a success and happening again this year.

Question 5: What do you think of the Millvale Music Festival adding a visual arts component this year?

I am incredibly stoked there’s a visual art component. A lot of music festivals host a flea market at some point in their schedule and I’m excited someone brought up the idea.

Question 6: What will you be bringing to the Millvale Music Festival?

The world is my oyster. I have some standard prints I’m bringing and I’m trying out some new Knick knack projects.

Question 7: Where can people find you?

I grew up around woodworking as a practical craft.  After attending my first few Burning Man events when I was younger I realized that woodworking as art wasn't just for "masters" but was achievable by anyone, including me. When I was introduced to the tech and "maker" movement I integrated my woodworking and design with CNC work to create more precise work that I could not do by hand.

All my life! Never stop <3 The CNC woodworking that I will have on display at the Millvale Music Festival has been part of an ongoing project for close to two years.

Question 1: Who are you?

Hi, I'm Cam Schmidt

Question 2: What was your inspiration to become an artist?

I graduated from Pitt in January and have been aggressively pursuing visual art since then. Despite the fact that my formal education was in Civil Engineering, I have been pushing myself to learn and improve in multiple mediums including Spray Paint, Digital Art, and Acrylics. I would say that my main passion is character design with a cartoony aesthetic.

Question 3: How long have you been creating art?

I have been doodling since my first day of school, but I didn't start to push myself in the arts until about two years ago.

Question 4: How did you hear about the Millvale Music Festival?

My buddies are in a group called "Back Alley Sound" which is a full-band hip-hop act that will be playing at the festival (definitely check them out!), but I knew about the success of last years festival and had been following the new visual arts component for a while.

Question 5: What do you think of the Millvale Music Festival adding a visual arts component this year?

I think that it is fantastic! The city is exploding with visual artists and when an event like the Millvale Music Festival gives those artists a platform to present their work to people who are interested, it benefits the whole city!

Question 6: What will you be bringing to the Millvale Music Festival?

I will be bringing tons of original canvases as well as original custom woodcuts. There will be at least one full spray-painted tapestry (it's gonna be huge!!) I will have several prints, t shirts, and stickers for sale as well!

Question 1: Who are you?

Jesse Farley of Skewed Line Designs

Question 2: What was your inspiration to become an artist?

I’ve drawn and doodled since I was a kid, and I always enjoyed geometric art. I started creating full and concise pieces about 5 years ago and someone told me I should make prints. So here I am!

Question 3: How long have you been creating art?

My entire life, but more organized pieces about 5 or 6 years.

Question 4: How did you hear about the Millvale Music Festival?

A good friend of mine helps organize it. Also, I had heard about it last year through social media.

Question 5: What do you think of the Millvale Music Festival adding a visual arts component this year?

I think it is fantastic! A great addition to give people something to do and look at between concerts and venues.

Question 6: What will you be bringing to the Millvale Music Festival?

I will be bringing frames prints of the pieces that I currently offer, about 14 different drawings that can be purchased. Plus, I’ll be bringing along an original painting that I’ve never taken out of the house yet to show anyone.

Question 1: Who are you?

Church Mouse Forge

Question 2: What was your inspiration to become an artist?

I made my first forge in my early teens because I was reading too much Tolkien.  It was the typical nerdy childhood; making mead secretly in the basement, trying to create my own board games, and trying my hand at every archaic craft I could try after a trip to the library and hardware store.  I eventually would become an industrial designer, and I would spend a few years working with 3D models, figuring out complex assemblies that would be realized with a CNC mill or 3d printer, but some deeply ingrained satisfaction always brings me back to the anvil.

Question 3: How long have you been creating art?

I have been a full-time blacksmith for just over a year.

Question 4: How did you hear about the Millvale Music Festival?

I am constantly searching for new locations to do blacksmith demonstrations.  I live just across the river in Bloomfield, so, fortunately, the Millvale Music Festival came up a few times in conversations with friends.

Question 5: What do you think of the Millvale Music Festival adding a visual arts component this year?

I think it is great that Pittsburgh as a whole is cultivating the art, craft, and maker community.  I am also very pleased that the Festival is allowing me to set up for a live blacksmith demonstration. Some of the events I attend are hesitant to allow me to bring a 500,000 BTU forge and 100-pound anvil, but the willingness of the festival organizers to work with me to get the forge set up safely and efficiently tell me they are really working hard toward something special for Millvale.

Question 6: What will you be bringing to the Millvale Music Festival?

Besides what seems like half of my shop that I will need for the demonstrations, I will be bringing a range of my most recent work.  I have been forging new designs for bottle openers, pendants, hooks, trivets and specialty woodworking tools, all of which will be available at the Church Mouse Forge table.

Question 7: Where can people find you?

All of my available work is listed at www.churchmouseforge.com and I also post to Instagram @churchmouseforge.
