Amanda and I had the pleasure to stopping into Allegheny City Brewing on a Sunday Afternoon when they decided to open their doors to give a sneak peek during the Deutschtown House Tour which was a few days before their scheduled grand opening. This was a success because every seat in the brew pub was filled.
Allegheny City Brewing has about a fifteen person bar top and about five to ten cocktail tables of varying sizes throughout the main room. The brewery part of Allegheny City Brewing is next door and downstairs in the building with some windows to look through to see the work in action. At this particular time they had eight beers on tap which included some interesting brews such as a Habanero Stout that had great malt flavor up front with a nice spice flavor in the middle with a smooth mild burn on the back side; it warmed the belly in such a good way. I would suggest only drinking one of those or just as a sample size; a 4oz pour. Speaking of the samples, you can do a beer flight just like every other brewery offers. Allegheny City Brewing offers five (5) 4oz pours of your choice for $13.00 which, to me, just makes sense to do so you get to try the variety of what they brew.
The other varieties we were able to try at the time was the Grapefruit Imperial IPA, Graham Cracker Porter, Nova Gose, and Buster Blonde just to name a few. after talking with one of the owners we found that there will be a few main stays but there will be a lot of rotating brews and seasonal selections. Allegheny City Brewing offer to fill any growler whether it be theirs (for $5.00) or brought one from home. As Amy Yurkovich (one of the three owners) told us they would like you to purchase one of theirs, but its their beer they want you to enjoy, no matter the vessel.
Allegheny City Brewing is nestled in the friendly neighborhood of historic Deutschtown on the North Side a stones throw away from Cedar Ave and East Ohio St at 507 Foreland St 15212. Follow them on Twitter and Facebook for their beer releases and events that are held at the brewery or just stop on in and pull up a stool or table to enjoy some really good local beer that you can get straight from the source as well as support a local business.
Allegheny City Brewing can be found at 507 Foreland Street on the city’s North Side. For more information check them out on Facebook or AlleghenyCitybrewing.com or at 412-904-3732. Cheers
