“How does Wigle do fancy?” This was the question that centered around the newest extension of Wigle Whiskey. The answer lays in high-end cocktails and a make-your-own Old Fashion. It is in rock glasses and square ice cubes. The answer is at the Omni William Penn.
The Omni is known for its lavish rooms and being the oldest hotel in downtown. For five years Wigle and Onmi have had a great relationship. Wigle brings their spirits to the Omni in the Speakeasy, Tap Room and Terrace Room. So it was only fitting that during a meeting between Wigle owner, Meredith Grelli and Brian Annapolen, Director of Food and Beverage for Omni William Penn, they were discussing business and the conversation turned to Wigle wanting a location Downtown. Brian then showed the space that was the recently closed Beauty Salon in the Omni. Fast forward only a short time and then space was transformed into the Wigle Tasting Room at the Omni William Penn.
The Tasting Room has the same bottles you can find at the Distillery and at The Barrelhouse for purchase. The menu for The Tasting Room will include some classics from the Distillery like the Seasonal Punch with Allegheny Wheat Whiskey, spiced apple shrub, spiced simple syrup, lemon seltzer and Aromatic bitters. There will also be some Highball Cocktails like a Dark and Stormy and a G&T. There are flights available along with a Dram, single or double of any bottle made from Wigle. If you are in the mood for a beer and you are in the Tasting Room there will be three local beers on tap.
The Tasting Room also has a menu item that sets it apart from the rest of downtown called Make Your Own Old Fashion. When you order this cocktail you are given a checklist with a list of Spirits, a Simple Syrup, a Bitter and a Garnish. Also, there is an option to add some Absinthe at the end. After you make your choices the drink ingredients are delivered on a silver tray for you to be a bartender and make the Old Fashioned.
The Tasting room will not be serving food and will only be available to drink in the Tasting Room, not in the Omni Suites or in the lounge of the hotel. The Tasting Room will be open late and is accessible from Oliver Ave or through the lobby of the Omni William Penn. For more information check out http://wiglewhiskey.com.
