Apple Infused Whiskey Returns to Pittsburgh

By: Amanda Narcisi

Wigle Whiskey brings back a fall favorite with Walkabout Apple Whiskey on October 5th. Walkabout was started four years ago by Wigle founder Meredith Grelli while teaching Masters in Food Studies program in a New Product Development. The spirit has the soul of aged American Whiskey with the flavor of locally pressed apples. It begins in the fall when small cask Whiskey barrels aged only 18-24 months and Apple-wood Staves are then added to the barrels. For six weeks the staves sit in the barrels and after the whiskey is diluted to strength with Apple Cider from Soergel’s in Wexford.

The 2018 release of Walkabout Apple Whiskey is celebrated on October 5th from 5-10PM. The release will take place at the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse and Whiskey Garden with Gaucho Asado food truck and music from Her Ladyship begins at 7PM. The event is free, however, Wigle suggests you purchase a passport for $20. The passport includes two cocktails, a pour of Threadbare Cider or a beer from a local brewery. One of Wigle’s Distiller will be dressed as Johnny Appleseed to talk about Walkabout Apple Whiskey at 6:30 and 7:30 PM.
