The 10th street bridge connecting the South Side to 2nd Ave has been under a couple or construction projects in the last year. One of which is to paint the bridge the golden yellow like all the other bridges in the area. That painting project has spurred a petition spreading all over the city to save the urban art that a brave artist painted geese atop the bridge.

The “10th Street Geese” estimate back to 1995. It exhibits the resilience of the city. The street art has survived the revitalization of this city. It has braved decades of weather and it stands as a testament to how this city has survived everything.

A local petition started by artist Tim Kaulan states that the work is needed to the bridge but the artwork should be preserved. The petition has collected over 500 signatures in less than 7 days. Many of these signatures have personal accounts of what the urban art means to them.

“Having worked on the South Side for the entirety of my career and commuting on the 10th Street Bridge, these geese became a part of my daily ritual. The story of their appearance, their existence as part of the landscape, and the preservation of an important Pittsburgh artist’s work are only a few of the reasons the geese should remain. “I respectfully urge Allegheny County, who is currently repainting the bridge, to consider saving these paintings as they have come to represent an aspect of our beloved City that is important both historically and culturally.” ~Tim Kaulen
