Despite a delayed start, winter has arrived to Pittsburgh in full force. Bitter cold temperatures, harsh winds, and constant indoor heating can all take a toll on your face and body. There’s nothing worse than having skin that’s dry, irritated, and even red and peeling until the weather breaks. But don’t worry, BOLD has you covered! Try our 10 favorite products to help your skin survive (and even thrive) this winter.
Aloe Calming Facial Cleanser from The Body Shop
If your face is already dry, you definitely don’t want a cleanser that dries it out even more. Avoid face washes that foam and have ingredients like salicylic acid that will suck all the moisture from your skin. This creamy cleanser from The Body Shop contains aloe, a natural ingredient that calms irritated skin. It cleans and sooths your skin without any drying effects, which is exactly what you need in the winter. You can purchase this cleanser at The Body Shop outlet at Ross Park Mall or online at http://www.thebodyshop-usa.com.
Ultra Shea Body Cream from Bath and Body Works
We love the body cream from Bath and Body Works. It comes in a bunch of delicious scents and is incredibly moisturizing for your whole body. However, don’t get it confused with Bath and Body Works’ Body Lotion. The lotion is a runnier formula that still smells great but doesn’t do your skin much good. The Ultra Shea Body Cream is the way to go! Bath and Body Works is in literally every mall as well as the Waterfront, so this body cream is easy to find!
Nivea Lip Butter
If you wear this lip butter to bed every night, your chapped lips will have no chance. Nivea’s formula is ultra thick and moisturizing, made with shea butter and castor oil. It will moisturize your lips all night long; plus the scented ones smell SO good! You can find these at pretty much any drug store.
Mango Lip Balm from Burt’s Bees
For the daytime, we love this lip balm from Burt’s Bees. The mango formula is a little bit creamier and smoother than Burt’s Bees other scents, which makes it great for protecting your lips in the cold weather. Buy at least two from your local Target to get you through the winter.
Aveeno Daily Nourishing Moisturizer
This is a great daytime moisturizer for the cold weather. The best part is that it has an SPF of 30. Have you ever seen someone lying by the pool with one of those reflective fold-out sheets so they get twice the sun? That’s basically how snow works, too, so it’s super important to wear your SPF in the winter. This moisturizer also does its job of keeping your skin moisturized all day long, and you can purchase it at basically any drug store.
Aloe Soothing Night Cream from The Body Shop
Nothing beats the aloe skincare line from The Body Shop for the winter, which is why we love this night cream. Just like the aloe cleanser, it is incredibly soothing to irritated skin. Wear it all night long, and you’ll wake up with a face like a baby’s bottom.
Bath Bombs from Lush
Okay, these don’t really have a direct effect on your skin, BUT stress is a big cause of wrinkles, so de-stressing in a fizzy bath should be an important part of your beauty regimen. There’s really nothing better than coming home from work and taking a hot bath. Lush’s bath bombs turn your regular bath into a spa experience with luxurious scents, swirling colors, and occasionally confetti and glitter. You can stock up at the Lush outlet at Ross Park Mall and South Hills Village or order some online at lushusa.com.
Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash
The second best thing to a hot bath is a hot shower. Make sure your soap isn’t further drying out your skin, and try Dove’s moisturizing body wash this winter. It has a rich lather and leaves your skin soft and smooth when you step out of the shower. The Dove soap is available at most grocery stores as well as drug stores.
Pacifica Mini Body Butter Collection
These little tubes of butter body butter from Pacifica are made for your body, but we think they make great hand creams to stash in your car, in your desk, in your purse and anywhere else you can think of. The lotion is really rich and thick which makes it great for locking in moisture. The downside is it takes a while to soak into your skin. To remedy this, I like to put it on under my gloves before I go outside or just rub it onto the back of my hands so my fingertips aren’t gooey. You can find these mini body butters at your local Ulta!
Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask by First Aid Beauty
When your skin needs some extra love this winter, throw on this moisturizing mask by First Aid Beauty. Simply apply to clean skin, leave on for about 10 minutes, and rinse off. This mask is formulated not only to moisturize but also to sooth red and irritated skin. To really pamper yourself, we suggest putting this mask on and soaking with one of your Lush bath bombs. First Aid Beauty is sold at Sephoras like at Ross Park Mall and South Hills Village and in the JC Penney in the Monroeville Mall.
