On Friday night I ventured to the city for another play: Evil Dead: The Musical. Yes...That Evil Dead the movie from 1981 where Bruce Cambell's character raises and then destroys a group of demons in the woods. The movie was filled with blood, violence, Sexual innuendos and great one liners like "Groovy Baby".
So take the movie and add some great musical numbers like "What The Fuck Was That?" and you have the musical. It has blood and guts and when you sit in the "Splatter Zone" expect to wear some of the blood on the way out. Evil Dead: The Musical also is not for the easily offended fill with the same lewdness of the movie which makes it amazing. There is also some subtle hints of Bruce Cambell during the entire play. Even the actor that played Ash did him justice with his look and sound.
The set design was really well done and I was impressed on how the set came to life with items that moved on the walls. There was also the amazing effects during the "Possessed Hand" scene.
While the play has left Pittsburgh there is a weekend coming soon to Dayton, Ohio. As for me I hope The Cultural Trust brings it back next year.
