If you are truly from Pittsburgh then you understand the deep passion every time you hear a sonic boom from a firework. You get excited and exclaim out a “woah” from every Pirate home run to Pyrofest. Every year there is one firework show that attracts thousands and stirs memories for years to come. The Flashes of Freedom Celebrate America is known for the fireworks but is a celebration of Independence Day that lasts all day long.
On July 4th EQT will bring the Flashes of Freedom Celebrate America to Point State Park beginning at noon when the Ft. Pitt Museum will raise the American Flag in a special ceremony at the Block House. Throughout the day after that there will be activities at the Kid Zone, food vendors and a military appreciation exhibit. The Kid Zone will feature crafts like a Lady Liberty Crown.
At 5:30PM the Ft. Pitt Museum will host a reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by a fly over from the United States Air Force at 6PM.
The day is also filled with musical performances with the Warriors Rock Concert with Gary Racan and the Studio E Band at 8PM. This performance combines live music with interviews from veterans that share a song that reminds them of home when they are deployed. The finale is God Bless America with a salute to all veterans.
All of the day’s festivities end with the annual Flashes of Freedom Fireworks at 9:35PM. As before, the fireworks will choreographed with music that streams throughout Point State Park. The fireworks are produced by Pyrotecnico and is honored as one of the top 10 displays in the country named by the American Pyrotechnics Associations.
With July right around the corner it is time to plan making it to this amazing event that has something for the entire family. More information can be found at CelebrateAmericaPGH.com and on the Celebrate America Facebook and Twitter.
