It’s that time of year again; love is in the air and that air is freezing. We are all bracing ourselves for what old Mr. Winter throws our way in Western Pennsylvania. But why not enjoy a nice cocktail and cuddle up with your S.O. at the same time?
As usual, Wigle has you covered. The weekend of February 17th to the 19th, Wigle is releasing its Afterglow Ginger Whiskey for the 2nd year in a row. Afterglow was developed in partnership with Chatham University’s Food Studies program beginning in 2015. Ginger is typically a tropical crop, but a portion of the ginger used in Afterglow was cultivated at Chatham’s Eden Hall campus in Gibsonia by employing careful monitoring and techniques. This spirit is spicy, warming, and perfect for cold-weather enjoyment. It is said that the unconventional love between the daughter of a wealthy whiskey baron and a poor, red-headed mill worker (Henry Clay Frick’s parents) was the inspiration for Afterglow.
If you want to get the first tastes of Afterglow, distillery tours will be held on Tuesday February 14th at 5 and 6:30 pm at the Strip District Distillery. The tours will feature chocolate and whiskey pairing flights, including Afterglow. Otherwise, the official release begins on Friday February 17th with a Spicy Soirée Valentine’s event in partnership with Southern Tier Brewery. Tickets are $25 and include a Ginger Whiskey cocktail, Imperial Ginger Beer from Southern Tier, food from Baby Loves Tacos, and live music by Greg Jones.
The festivities continue on Saturday (12-6 pm) and Sunday (12-4 pm) with Ginger Whiskey samples and cocktails, as well as ginger-inspired fare from the Pittsburgh Sandwich Society. This free, family friendly event will be held at the Wigle Distillery in the Strip. Sweetie didn’t get you enough chocolate? Don’t worry – guests will have the opportunity to purchase whiskey truffles from the Strip District’s own Mon Aimee Chocolat as well as other chocolate and whiskey pairings.
So strap on your boots, bundle up, and grab your sweetie – this will be an event that you won’t want to miss. For more information and ticket purchases, go to wiglewhiskey.com/event-tickets. Hope to see you there!
