Pittsburgh Children’s Theatre Festival

Imagine a festival with hands-on exhibits that the whole family can enjoy. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust introduces the 31st annual Pittsburgh Children’s Theater Festival. Tickets for this fun filled weekend are available for purchase May 18th – 21st. Attendees can choose to purchase tickets for all or some activities.

The Way Back Home is based on the children’s book by Oliver Jeffers about a boy who discovers a single engine airplane in his closet and flies to outer space. This play is fun and adventurous filled with puppets and great imagery.

Pulse is the sensory texture play for toddlers. This is interactive play is full of textures and lively games that is perfect for infants and toddlers.

Elephant and Piggy are a favorite among children of all ages and their story is coming to a stage in Elephant and Piggie’s: We Are In A Play. This play is will get you moving with lots of music and dancing. On Saturday at 1:30pm, there is a special performance of Elephant and Piggie’s that is sensory friendly.

The Cashore Marionettes brings Simple Gifts to the stage. Simple Gifts explores a series of touching stories about what it means to be a human. Simple Gifts is perfect for older children.

Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale is a story about two daughters sent out on adventure by the king to find him a queen. During the adventure they come across mysterious situations that will test courage, kindness and strength. For children ages 5-11.

We Built This City is a great outdoor interactive exhibit and play where families will be invited to build a dream city out of cardboard boxes. This will be outside at 7th street and Penn Avenue. Children will be able to build and climb skyscrapers and go through tunnels. This activity is acceptable for all ages.

There will be many other events and activities going on though out the festival route like O’Ryan The O’Mazing and The Steel City Lego User Group. There will also be food options and vendors, pop-up galleries and green spaces, hands-on exhibits and outdoor performances. Information booths will be open during the weekend for more information.
