Venus in Furs and Goddess Night

By: Amanda Narcisi

On June 3rd there is a different kind of night happening at Pittsburgh Public Theater. It is a ladies night to the highest caliber: a goddess night. To kick off the upcoming show Venus in Furs, Pittsburgh Public Theater is hosting this night that includes cocktails, snacks and shopping.

The Goddess Night kicks off at 6PM with a Goddess Market that will include vendors such as Wigle Whiskey, Dreadnought Wines, Sinful Sweets and Pure Romance. All table will have product to buy and some will have samples to enjoy. During the market there will also be a photo booth, hors d’oeuvres, music and a cash bar.

At 8PM the night continues with a showing of Venus in Furs. Venus in Furs is an award winning play about Thomas, played by Christian Conn, who adapted the book Venus in Fur for the stage. He spends all day searching for the leading actress. When Thomas was just about to leave Vanda, played by Whitney Maris Brown, came running in out of a raging thunderstorm outside. Vanda believes the play is about S&M and shows up with a dog collar, a leather skirt and a pair of kinky boots. However Thomas explains the play is about the “great love story”. Eventually he gives in to her charm and the two read from the play and they become steamy on and off script. During the entire audition there is a dominance and submissive role reversal that is fun and witty.

Goddess Night will wrap after the play with an afterparty in the lobby with Starbucks and live music. Then you can continue the evening at Bakersfield with a drink exclusive.

Tickets for Goddess Night is $30.00 for the entire event and can be ordered at PPT.org and enter the code PPTGODDESS.
