As the season comes to a close at Pittsburgh Public Theater Hamlet takes the stage as Ted Papas last play as Artistic Director. Ted Pappas led Pittsburgh Public Theater for 18 years.
Hamlet is the classic Shakespeare play filled with murder, poisonous swords and sexual tension. Prince Hamlet, played by PA native Matthew Amendt, returns to Danish Palace in Elsinore after his father, the king, was killed. He is visited by the ghost of the king, played by Darren Eliker, and asked to avenge his death. In the twist of drama the king’s brother, Claudius, played be David Whalen, is the murderer and he took the thrown and married Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude, played by Caris Vujcec. Other characters from Hamlet include: Ophelia, his love, played by Jenny Leona, and friend Heratio (Andrew Miller).
Hamlet is on the O’Reilly Theater stage from April 19th through May 20th with various Dates and times. Ticket prices: $29.25 – $74.25. Tickets for students & age 26 & younger: $15.75.
