Cruising – this one word may bring many images to your mind. Very likely, they are images of things that are easy or fun. People go cruising in their cars, when things are going as planned we say we are “cruising along”. And that is exactly what you get on a cruise vacation – an easy, relaxing experience! I have cruised in the past, but most recently, I had the privilege of cruising on two different lines this year (Disney Fantasy and Norwegian Escape), and I loved both experiences!
Cruising is a style of vacation filled with myths; I am here to bust some of those for you today. First, let’s start with what cruising IS. Cruising is fun for the whole family. It isn’t just for older people, just for partiers, or any other “just for” you can think of. Cruises literally have something for everyone. It’s a great multi-generational vacation experience; it’s also a great experience for couples, families, or even those singles wanting a getaway by themselves. Of course, there are many different cruise lines out there, and there are some that are more tailored to certain experiences than others. It’s important to speak with someone who is knowledgeable about the cruise industry so that they can recommend a line suited for your family. Of course, I highly recommend using a Travel Agent for this – our entire goal is to make sure you are where you need to be!
Cruising is, for the most part, inclusive of everything price-wise. All of your meals, your on-board entertainment, your lodging – it’s included! Plus, you can see a variety of ports without constantly changing hotels. It’s definitely a vacation with a lot of value. In many cases, it’s much more cost-effective than a land version of the same vacation. Many cruise lines also offer great rates on the “add-ons” people most enjoy – shore excursions, adult beverage packages, spa services, etc. Plus, today’s cruise ships have amazing amenities – water parks, ropes courses, kids’ clubs, adult-only areas, casinos, night-clubs, shopping … they’ve thought of everything.
And what about location? Well, there are cruise ports located in lots of places that you may not even think of! Of course some of the most popular ports are out of Florida, but did you know you can take a cruise out of New York? Or Boston? And of course don’t forget about the cruises to Hawaii or Alaska from the West Coast! Want to see Europe? Cruising is a great way to do that! River Cruises are all the rage right now, and it is one of the most beautiful ways to tour. Of course, a Mediterranean Cruise is also a fantastic way to see the coast cities. The most popular location to cruise is the Caribbean, for obvious reasons. Sun, sand, surf… it’s just a good place to be! Especially in the doldrums of a Pittsburgh winter, a respite in sunny climates is just what the doctor ordered. Well I’m not a doctor, but I know some doctors – I’m pretty sure they’ll agree with me!
Now, let’s bust some myths: the biggest being safety. No, you can’t just fall off of a cruise ship. I know that every now and again in the news, someone claims that a cruise passenger/worker just “disappeared” and there is speculation that they fell off. All of those cases prove to be incidents of a more sinister nature. Hurricanes – no worries! Cruise ships routinely change course to avoid nasty weather. That’s the beauty of a cruise.
So what are you waiting for? Experience it all for yourself! We would be happy to steer you in the right direction (just check out my bio for more info). There are FANTASTIC deals out right now, so now is a great time to book. I know you’ll be glad you did!
