Thirty Five years ago Bob Marley played his last concert at the Benedum Center for Performing Arts before his premature death. To mark such an amazing anniversary The Wailers have been announced as the headliners for this year First Night.
According to The Cultural Trust: Each year, approximately 40,000 people ring in the New Year at 150 events at 50 venues throughout the Cultural District. 90% of all events are held indoors. At the end of the evening, visitors enjoy the Future of Pittsburgh Grand Finale: the countdown to midnight, raising of the 1,000 lbs. Future of Pittsburgh ball 150 feet in the air above Penn Avenue Place, and a spectacular Zambelli fireworks finale. The Wailers will perform on the Highmark Stage during this rousing Grand Finale.
The Wailers was the band that performed with Bob Marley before his death and to date have played over 200 dates per year. The Wailers were chosen to perform because they promote peace, love and equality through their music which goes along with this year's theme of First Night: Around the World, Around the 'Burgh.
Festivities start at 6:00PM and wrap up at 12:00 midnight.
