With St. Patrick’s Day the biggest holiday in March, Pittsburgh holds one of the biggest parades around.
This year the parade is dedicated to the late Mr. Rooney who was the US ambassador of Ireland. As a result members of the Rooney family and parts of the Steeler organization will make appearances at the parade.
This year in addition to the official St Patrick’s Day t-shirt a towel called The Shamrock Shammy will be available for waving during the parade. The Shamrock Shammy and the official shirt will be available in weeks leading up to St Patricks Day around local businesses including Yinzers in the Strip District.
Miss Smiling Irish Eyes was already named. Madeline Evans from North Hills and a student at Villanova University will be joined by the court of Roisin Sabol and Erin Sheedy. Miss Smiling Irish eyes and The Court is some of the most celebrated participants in the parade.
The Pittsburgh St Patrick’s Day Parade is the 2nd largest in the country. With 22,000 participants including 18 marching bands the parade will follow the route beginning at Liberty and 11h and follow Grant to Blvd of the Allies and finishes at Stanwix Street. Leading the Parade as Grand Marshall is Maggie Cloonan.
St Patrick’s Day Parade runs from 10AM until 1PM and during that time Market Square is also filled with family friendly events including a performance from the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band.
Kick off March 17th with an amazing parade downtown and festivities all day long. Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
