I have a favorite summer activity in Pittsburgh; in fact I love it so much I have a photo collage that hangs in my living room. I love Venture Outdoors Kayak Pittsburgh. There is nothing cooler then paddling past PNC Park and around the Point to get a new perspective on the city.
The bright yellow kayaks can be seen for miles and all around Point State Park on any given sunny day. Kayak Pittsburgh is open seven days a week from Memorial Day through September. Hours are Monday-Friday 11AM-8PM (last boat out at 7PM) and Saturday and Sunday 10AM-8PM (last boat at 7PM). Prices for a solo kayak start at $11 per hour for members and $16 per hour for non-members and then $8 for additional hours. There are season passes available for purchase on their website. Tandem kayaks are also available. At the North Park location there is stand-up paddle boards, canoes, rowboats and paddle boats. There is a third location in Aspinwall for more kayaking farther up the river. All three locations also have bikes for rent for trips around the lake or along the waterfront trail.
If you are ever looking for something to do and always wanted to try kayaking head to the North Shore, North Park and Aspinwall for lots of fun. Check out ventureoutdoors.org for more information.
