Summertime in Pittsburgh means maintenance for local theaters. This maintenance includes cleaning chandeliers, steaming the curtains and putting finishing touches on the next season. For Pittsburgh Public Theater it brings a change in Artistic Directors and one show that always brings down the house.
Ted Pappas announced at the beginning of the 2017 season that it would be his last as Artistic Director for Pittsburgh Public Theater and the position would be filled by Marya Sea Kaminski and takes effect August 1st. To kick off her new position, Marya is hosting a Summer Happy Hour on Thursday, August 23rd at 6:30 PM. The event will start int he lobbies with munchies and beverages and then at 7:30 PM the party will move into the theater for conversation around “Welcome Home”; next years season and meet Marya. Tickets are $10.
The weekend following the Summer Happy Hour brings a show to Pittsburgh Public Theater. Second City is returning to Pittsburgh Public Theater on August 24th at 8:00 PM and August 25th at 5:30 and 9:00 PM. Made in America: Some Assembly Required will be a satire filled with laughs about the current dysfunctional nation. Second City is celebrating 60 years of shows and laughs that launched many famous comedians. There will be special cabaret seating for four on the stage. Beer, wine and select cocktails will be sold in the lobby and able to be enjoyed during the show. Tickets start at $35.
