As the summer winds down and the kids go back to school, there is a tendency to feel like vacation time is over. Probably because of our own school days, we associate summer with vacation time. But in reality, fall is a fantastic time to travel! And although it may be harder to get away for long periods of time, there are plenty of local getaways that are perfect for excitement, adventure, or a little R & R.
One great idea for a luxurious getaway is Nemacolin, located in the Laurel Highlands. There are 6 different options to choose from when staying here, ranging from the Chateau Lafayette, inspired by the Ritz Paris, to the budget friendly RV park on site. Nemacolin also boasts Lautrec, one of only 25 restaurants worldwide to hold a 5-star AAA rating as well as Forbes 5-diamond rating. Now that’s what I call vacation food! Another great option here is the beautiful lodge, which has a great array of options for a fantastic “stay-cation”. With lots of on-site activities, including golf and a spa, and a nearby casino, there is no need to worry about entertainment. There are even pet-friendly options. So you needn’t worry about your fur-babies. There is a pet care center right on site!
Want a romantic getaway that’s in the midst of the action? Consider the Omni William Penn right in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh. With an open, spacious lobby, beautifully appointed rooms, and the fantastic Terrace Room Restaurant, you’ll feel pampered right from the start. The staff is friendly and efficient, and an added bonus is that it is within walking distance to the Theater District. Throughout the year, the Omni William Penn offers romance packages that are perfect for a quick, romantic getaway. These packages feature dining in the Terrace Room, and from first-hand experience, I can tell you that both meals are outstanding!
If you feel like heading up North is more your style, consider all that Erie has to offer! The beauty of Presque Isle beaches offer an assortment of recreational options, but it doesn’t stop there! Erie also features one of America’s oldest amusement parks, Waldameer Park, as well as Splash Lagoon, a huge indoor waterpark. Want more fun? Head over to the Erie Zoo & Botanical Gardens! For a slower paced visit, try out the Art Museum or a Winery Visit. There are so many options!
If you’re up for a bit more of a drive, check out all that Hershey has to offer. Immediately your mind may think of Chocolate World. Fair enough! It’s amazing. You can make your own candy bar and purchase – you guessed it – Hershey chocolates of all varieties. But there is so much more to Hershey! Hershey Park is clean and family-friendly, with riding options for all ages. There is also an on-site zoo that can be accessed from the park! There are even more options to explore in Historic Hershey. For the full experience, consider staying at the Hotel Hershey or the Hershey Lodge. Hint: if you book a spa treatment, you will smell chocolate the whole time. What could be better?! And fall is a great time to visit. You can check out “Hersheypark in the Dark” for the upcoming Halloween season.
